The Original Hazzard County Band does country the way it was meant to be played. The band has been performing in the NWI region since the 70’s and they are still going strong today. Providing the best in Country Music ranging from Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard to Jimmy Buffet. The band is made up of veteran performers who have played throughout Chicagoland and across the country with numerous groups. The band was started by Nelson Wynn and Rick Crayne. Nelson Wynn has the unique ability to front the band, sing, and play a mean pedal guitar and has been playing professionally since he was 15 years old. Rick Crayne plays the bass, harmonica and adds vocals and has played throughout the country with many known national acts such as Tanya Tucker, George Strait and Charlie Daniels to name a few. Gary Donnelly plays drums, sings and has also played throughout the Chicagoland area with many of the top country bands. Frank Wysong rounds out the band on guitar and also has been playing in the Chicagoland area for many years. If you love country music this is definitely a band you want to hear. The Uptown Dance Band started out as a wedding band playing the more current hits to keep the guests dancing. From this the Sutton Music Company recognized the opportunity to get the band out to the local establishments that wanted live dance music. The band is very upbeat, energetic and provides nothing but fun. They cover a wide variety of music from Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, Adele, Elle King to the B-52’s to name just a few. The band is made up of a collection top notch local musicians and features Jeanie Delascases, Nicolas Kazonis, Josh Andrews, Carla Stinson, Kris Lohn and Andy Sutton. Having both female and male vocalists allows the band to do a wide range and cover all the harmonies needed. There are times they also bring a saxophone and trumpet into the mix depending on the venues needs. The band will be playing Duffy’s in Valparaiso, Indiana on March 10th and Gators in Winfield, Indiana on March 26th. Eaten Alive has been rocking the area since 2008 and is one of the top dance bands playing throughout the NWI region. Their music is an eclectic mix that covers a wide variety of tunes from classic rock to country to modern top 40 hits. The band consists of five dedicated members who started out in music at an early age and have kept their passion alive ever since. Jennifer Myers is the female lead vocalist/keyboards whose vocals range from Adele to Carrie Underwood to Guns and Roses. Shayne Eaton, the band's founder, is the male lead vocalist/guitar player. Mark Snedden has the low end covered on the bass guitar and keys, while also keeping the midrange vocal harmonies in check. Robin Hartman can be found on the drums. He also hops on lead vocals all while keeping the crowd amused and on the dance floor. ONE STEP AHEAD is a new dynamic NWI Region/Chicagoland band that covers a wide variety of musical genres. The band was founded by professional studio and touring drummer Mark Kap who has been versed in all styles of music over his many years in the music business. Elianne Nascimento provides lead vocals and covers a variety of vocal styles ranging from opera to jazz to R&B fusion. Steven Farrell provides the bass/vocals for the band has been playing in numerous bands throughout the Chicagoland area over his long and storied career. You have to love a band that lists its interests as worm holes, time travel, the moon and beer, as does the ALIEN SYNDICATE. The band formed back in 2013 and calls Crown Point, Indiana home but lists their current location as space. They play a mixture of hard and classic rock tunes that you may not normally hear when out listening to music. They cover some of the deeper cuts from bands such as The James gang, Pearl Jam, Rival Sons, Raconteurs and Black Sabbath to name a few. The band is made up of some of the top musicians in the NWI region. The band is fronted by Daryl Grady on vocals, Kevin Bryant on guitar, Mike Flannery on bass and Glenn Miller on drums. The Robots is a classic rock band that performs covers from the 60’s to the present day and was formed in 2007. The band presents a good mixture of music to please everyone who attends any of their performances. Sometimes they even mix in a few originals from some of their band members which is a treat. The bands members are seasoned veterans of the region music seen. Pete Calacci is a guitar player singer/songwriter whose style can be described as a fiery mix of rock, blues and pop. Bob Sherman adds vocals, guitar and bass and his gritty soulful voice fits perfectly with the blues. Ed Fell has been a fixture on the local music scene since the early 70’s and he adds drums/vocals to the group, and he can also play the trumpet. Danny Mac plays bass, guitar, vocals and brings an eclectic mix of genres to the band. The Robots bring high energy and stage presence that will surely be enjoyed by all. On February 16 at 6 pm at the Lake County Public Library in Merrillville, Indiana there will be a free musical/historical performance celebrating the evolution of Black Music in America for Black History Month. The program will last 75 minutes and takes the audience on a journey as it traces black music from the slave fields to its role in breaking down color barriers in America. Hear firsthand accounts of what it was like to be a black entertainer in mid-20th century America from Willie Rogers, A senior member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the legendary gospel group The Soul Stirrers, and his wife veteran performer/vocalist Josie Rogers. Also from members of The Spaniels forever such as Billy Shelton, Gene Stewart, Sheryl Youngblood, and Hiawatha Burnett. The important role NWI Vee Jay Records had in the evolution is also revealed. Lakeshore Public Radio broadcaster Tom Lounges moderates the program and introduces the wonderful live cast performers as they share their stories and sing.
